Austin Air filters address the complete spectrum of air cleaning, removing sub-micron particles, noxious gases and chemicals. Austin AirÕs 360-degree intake system draws air into all sides of the HealthMate+, passing it through a 4-stage filter. The result, more clean air delivered faster and more efficiently than any other air cleaner on the market. The 4-stage filtration systems works like this: STAGE 1 - Large Particle Pre-filter - Removes particles easily seen by the naked eye (e.g. dust, hair and pet dander), STAGE 2 - Medium Particle Pre-filter - Removes small to medium size particles (e.g. molds, spores and pollen), STAGE 3 - 15 lbs. of Activated Carbon/Zeolite Blend - Removes chemicals, gases and odors (e.g. sulfuric acid and ammonia), STAGE 4 - 60 ft. of True Medical Grade HEPA - Removes harmful micro-organisms - (e.g. bacteria and viruses) . Common household cleaning products, detergents and materials can emit dangerous vapors. The HealthMate+ offers a superior gas filtration system to remove a wide range of chemical vapors. The Austin Air HealthMate+ cleans up to 1500 square feet, with 15 lbs. of Carbon-Zeolite mix impregnanted with Potassium Iodide for the absorbtion of odors, gases and chemicals. Every minute, over 200 cubic feet of air passes through 15 pounds of Activated Carbon and over 60 square feet of True Medical Grade HEPA, providing air so clean it could change your life and how you sleep. I give the HealthMate Plus credit for saving my life. With it in my home I can handle odors and chemicals from other apartments and the outside. Mine has been thru neighbors painting, and remodeling. I did have a break down with it and the warranty was honored. They even put an emergency tag on the repair so it was repaired faster. The newer ones are so much more quieter than the old ones. When I got mine back from the factory I was constantly putting my hand on it to see if it was running. It was just so quiet. This is one of the first items that I recommend for a chemically sensitive person to buy. When the box arrived all I had to do was lift the box off and plug it in. It was so well packed I was impressed. Ogreenc - See all my reviews    The unit works well but has some design flaws that could be added such as: a variable speed control to adjust the speed (sound) beyond just the three choices, the outlet could be adjustable so you could direct the flow of the air wiout moving the unit, the strength of the casing could be stronger so that if somene accidentially sits on it that would not be a problem (got kids?), and the manufacturing company could bother to answer their emails and cold write you back (which they don't) with a confirmation so that you *know* they have received your warranty registration online. I would buy the unit again and wanted another unit, but since the company did not answer back my emails when I had questions about an other use for an additional one I did not bother to buy the second one. So far I don't feel the manufacturer cares much about their customers and hope there will be no problems when I have to deal with them in the future.
